Michael Lockhart B.A. B.Sc.

is a writer, speaker, designer and typographer.

Michael has a lifelong interest in the environment, nature conservation and earth science. He has coupled his science background with his skills as a communicator to develop Econation, a leading provider of information about sustainable well-being.

Michael has a broad range of knowledge about environmental sustainability, it’s issues and solutions. He has written more that 250,000 words for the Econation website. In addition he has made his first ebook Tread Lightly available for free on the Econation website. Michael is also the founder of GreenKiwi, an online resource about sustainability for school teachers and students.

He is active in the community as an advocate and supporter of artists – musicians, writers, performers and visual artists. He has helped and advised countless artists in their careers – formally and informally. For several years Michael worked as a business trainer and mentor to designers and artists. Michael has run hundreds of training workshops and coaching sessions. He has also been guest lecturer and external moderator the Otago Polytechnic School of Design.

He has also given dozens of free talks in schools throughout the country encouraging young people to take control of their arts careers.

Michael has owned and managed leading graphic design companies and has extensive knowledge about identity management, design management and creative direction.

Michael was born and grew up in Dunedin, New Zealand, and graduated from Victoria University of Wellington. Michael now lives with his partner, who is a contemporary jeweller, in Wellington. Michael is the father of two daughters and step-father of two step-children.
