Michael Lockhart is a writer, speaker, designer and typographer.

Michael has a lifelong interest in the environment, conservation and earth science. He has coupled his science background (B.Sc. in Geology) with his skills as a communicator to develop Econation, a leading provider of information about sustainable well-being.

Michael has a broad base of knowledge about sustainability – issues and solutions. He has written more that 250,000 words for the Econation website. In addition he has made his first ebook Tread Lightly available for free on the website. Michael is also the founder of GreenKiwi, an online resource about sustainability for school teachers and students.

Michael’s involvement in the arts and design has seen him involved in countless activities to promote, encourage and generally advance the cause of designers and artists – musicians, writers, performers and visual artists.

Michael has owned and managed leading graphic design companies and has extensive knowledge about identity management, design management and creative direction.

For several years Michael worked as a business trainer and mentor to designers and artists. Michael has run hundreds of training workshops and coaching sessions. He has also been guest lecturer and external moderator the Otago Polytechnic School of Design.

He is active in the community as an advocate and supporter of artists – musicians, writers, performers and visual artists. He has helped and advised countless artists in their careers – formally and informally and has given dozens of free talks in schools throughout the country encouraging young people to take control of their arts careers.

Michael was born and bred in Dunedin, New Zealand, went to boarding school in Christchurch and graduated from Victoria University of Wellington. Michael now lives with his partner, who is a contemporary jeweller, in Wellington. Michael is the father of two daughters and step-father of two step-children.
